Visiting Egypt had been a dream of mine since a social studies class in the 9th grade! I finally was able to go. What an amazing trip to go with the Gary and artist Andrea Smith along with an Egyptologist. We were a small group with private access to the temples and a most memorable visit to the Kings Chamber in the Great Pyramid. Not only that, but a cruise on the Nile in a felucca boat with private staterooms and a chef just for our group. I couldn’t stop taking pictures and was excited to be able to get back in my studio to burn some polymer plates and start experimenting. Ancient art, hieroglyphs, textures, the carvings and painted walls and ceilings inside the temples, there was so much visual richness to draw from. I may never be done with the Egyptian series!
