Always nice to be recognized and honored. The other piece was a digital collage which is a departure for me. I will be posting some of the new work soon as it is still in progress.

Art of the Book 4

September 1st, 2012 – 11:21 am
Filed as: Shows

Had an amazing opening for the Book Show last weekend. There was such a great turnout with wall to wall people. I was grateful to have this piece accepted as it has a great deal of meaning to me. I volunteered for the Free Arts for Abused Children in Los Angeles teaching a photography workshop to a group of teenage girls. Since we are not allowed to photograph their faces I took a photograph of them making hearts with their joined hands. I then made an etching plate of the image and hand inked and printed it on special watercolor paper.

You can see the exhibit in Ventura 89 S. California St. Hours are noon-6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays; noon-8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Exhibit will be up until October 7th. Visit venturaartistsunion.org for more information.

Kaupo Trees on hand dyed paper

You may have heard about the Chain Letter exhibition at the Shoshanna Wayne Gallery at Bergamont Station in Santa Monica, well I am one of the artists in the exhibition or more like, the event. The way it worked was that an email was sent to 10 artists who then sent an email to 10 more artists that they admired and asked them to submit. Over 1600 artists finally were able to contribute. They closed the Shoshanna Wayne after I got in and then opened a couple of other spaces to accommodate the art. Over 1600 artists were able to contribute.

It was quite a scene on intake day, the police had barricaded and closed the street leading into Begamont Station after a couple of hours. I can only imagine what opening night was like, probably a mob scene!

The chain letter concept was carried out in other cities across the world, such as Chicago, New York, Berlin, Paris, Johannesburg and more.
