Hands of Labor, Heart of Land No 1

I feel so honored to have been included in the 16th Art About Agriculture Exhibition at the Santa Paula Museum of Art alongside so many amazing and established artists. Even with the torrential rains weโ€™ve been having, the turnout was incredible at the Premiere Party Saturday 11/15.

Iโ€™ve wanted to participate in this exhibit for years and this time I was determined to make it happen carefully tracking every deadline and staying focused. I also had a burning image in my mind that I knew I needed to bring to life.

Many years ago, I photographed strawberry pickers working in the fields. I vividly remember one woman walking between the rows with a box of berries balanced on her head. There was something regal about her presence that stayed with me, an image that remained etched in my memory. As both a photographer and a printmaker, I was able to bring together both disciplines to create the final hand-pulled print, my way of honoring her and her life.

The exhibit is on view to March 8, 2026
